Description: A very fast growing pussy willow with red bark and a white chalk-like look to the branches. This willow is drought tolerant and hardy when established. It prefers average to wet soil; and will even tolerate some standing water.
Ornamental Features: The catkins start blooming in early February, heralding the arrival of Spring. Pruning at this time will put a smile on your face when you set your catkin-loaded cuttings in vases around your house.
Landscape Attributes: The Marquette Pussy Willow will grow to 19ft x 15ft at maturity. Zone hardy for Calgary and area.
Fun Fact: The bark from willows can be used in remedies, such as tea, for headaches and hangovers.
Fun Fact: Willow is a source of salicin, which is broken down into salicylic acid – the main component of aspirin.
